The George West Education Foundation hit a major milestone last week when it surpassed $500,000.00 in contributions after less than four years in existence. The Live Oak County Coliseum was transformed into a Longhorn Field of Dreams on October 17, as GWEF hosted its Fourth Annual Fundraiser for the schools of GWISD. The night would see the over 400 guests contributing more than $100,000 for tickets, and silent and live auction items as they enjoyed the all-inclusive party complete with drinks, chef-catered meal and live music from the band, Shenandoah.
Tickets for tables to the event began selling quickly when GWEF announced that the gold-record band would be headlining the event and Shenandoah did not disappoint. They played their many hits to a full dance floor. And, true to the tradition of the previous fundraisers, the evening offered something for everyone. Guests mingled while they enjoyed the silent and live auction offerings and sat down to a meal of the now-famous Chef Chip's Shrimp Gumbo, as well as the surf and turf fare served to all.
There were items at auction to fit every budget and interest, from sparkling jewelry and antique guns to fishing and hunting trips and hard-to-get tickets to Spurs games and the Majestic Theatre. The funds from the fundraiser will go straight back to the school in April of 2016. |
